Current Work

Metallic stents, commonly used, presents several disadvantages such as corrosion and restenosis, leading to health complications for the patient, or even death. The main objective of my work is to develop a multifunctional hybrid stent, capable of eliminate the disadvantages of metallic ones.
The main innovation of this study is the incorporation of silver nanoparticles on stent surface to be released, providing a continuous antimicrobial effect and preventing stent infection. The developed stent will be different form the available stents, since they apply silver, directly, on surface, providing only a temporary antimicrobial effect, immediately, after insertion of the device, which does not prevent their infection, and, consequent complications, over time.
