Summary
S. M. Marques has a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Algarve and performs her thesis in the scientific area of organic chemistry, in the synthesis of new biodegradable polymeric materials based on polycaprolactone. In 2005, she was hired as a scientific research fellow by the University of Minho, for the project “Deposition of photocatalytic and self-cleaning Titania on glass surfaces”. The main functions were depositing thin and transparent TiO2 films by reactive magnetron sputtering (PVD) and the study of photocatalytic, structural, and mechanical properties. Also, during this period, she completed the M.Sc. in Polymer Engineering at the University of Minho, developing photocatalytic titania coatings in piezoelectric polymers for use in electronic devices avoiding dirt adhesion.
In September of 2011, she earned a doctoral grant which was focused on the deposition of nanocomposite thin films of TiAg and TiN-Ag by PVD on polymers. The main objective was the development of electrodes, to use this system as a sensor for orthopedic prostheses. From biological characterization, is important to highlight the collaboration established with the Center for Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering at Universitat Politécnica de València. This work ended with the presentation of the Ph.D. thesis in Materials Engineering at the University of Minho, on January 26, 2016.
In April 2016, she starts as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in ERA-SIINN/0004/2013 project "Effect on human health of leather treatment for the footwear industry with Ag-TiO2 nanomaterials", financed through OE, from the FCT. Mariana Marques interrupted her contract for maternity leave.
In September 2017, Mariana Marques starts a new strand professional at TMG Automotive, an industry of plasticized fabrics and other coatings for the automotive industry, as part of the RDI department.
Since May 2019, she has been hired as a Junior Researcher at the University of Minho. In January 2020, with the born of her second child, she interrupted the contract for maternity leave.
Regarding the scientific contribution to the community, S. M. Marques published 18 articles in ISI International journals as co-author (9of them as the first author) with approximately 202 citations and an h-index of 9 (Scopus, august 2021). She co-authored 19 abstracts at national and international conference peer-reviewed proceedings, 7 of which selected as oral communications and 12 as a poster presentation. S. M. Marques also was co-supervisor of 6 MSc students (from the University of Minho as well as the University of Porto) and a Jury of 3 academic degrees; She is a member of the Portuguese Engineers Order (OE) and the Portuguese Society of Materials (SPM) and she was involved in the organization of SPM activities (eg European conference committee organization and dissemination activities) and in actions of dissemination of science for professors and younger students.
