Current Work

His research is currently focused on the development of self-lubricating coatings for high speed machining applications. This type of coatings have a great potential to be used in the protection of components operating at extreme temperatures and contact pressures, due to the lubricious agent encapsulated in the coating that provides localized lubrication. The main challenge is associated with the swift diffusion of the lubricious agent to the surface and its rapid depletion that leads to the loss of lubrication properties. Thus, Diogo Cavaleiro main objective passes through the control of the diffusion process of the lubricious agent that would allow for the industrialization of self-lubricating coatings.
