Summary
Diogo got his master´s degree in mechanical engineering in 2015 in the University of Coimbra on the area of welding. Following this, came the achievement of his PhD degree in 2021 from the University of Minho in the materials science area for the application of coatings in cutting tools to machine "hard-to-cut" aerospace alloys. More specifically, the production and optimization of thin films by PVD is something that Diogo have been dealing with since the beginning of his academic career. Moreover, during the last years, the focus has been in depositing and characterizing few different types of coatings systems with multiple configurations (monolithic, multilayer, etc.) for different applications using several different advanced characterization techniques. Diogo also took advanced formation on SEM/EDS during this period and kept personal contact with all the other similar characterization techniques (TEM, RBS, XRD, WDS, etc.). Adding to this, one of the main application focus of his work has been the aerospace industry and specifically, the machining of “hard-to-machine” alloys which encompasses a significant amount of knowledge in mechanics and tribology. More recently, Diogo won a junior researcher grant in the aim of a PRR project in Portugal and thus, now leads and manages this project. This project is in the area of application of coatings in bike chains for cosmetic and/or functional purposes. Finally, Diogo is also participating and assisting in "entering" a new, but still somewhat related, area through the application of coatings in cathodes and anodes for enhancing and improving the efficiency during hydrogen production.
Current Work
His research is currently focused on the development of Bike chains and hydrogen production.
